Capricorn Region Information

The Capricorn region is the northern gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef and straddles the Tropic of Capricorn, stretching from the Central Highlands in the west, to Rockhampton, the Capricorn Coast and Great Keppel Island in the east.

The major regional centre is Rockhampton, the ‘Beef Capital of Australia’. Rockhampton is surrounded by holiday destinations including the Capricorn Coast, Byfield National Park and the Keppel Island Group.

To the west in Queensland’s Central Highlands are the popular tourist destinations of the Sapphire Gemfields, Lake Maraboon, Carnarvon Gorge, Blackdown Tableland National Parks, plus the historic gold mining town of Mount Morgan.
