Star Ratings
Star ratings are independently assessed and are trade mark registered by AAA Tourism, the national tourism body of the Australian motoring organisations. Each property is rated annually and the assessment is based on the amenities and facilities offered by the property, the standard in which the property has been maintained and the level of services offered by the host.
In this tourism sector, there are two categories rated by AAA Tourism, namely B&B Traditional and B&B Self contained. A brief guide to the star ratings is as follows;
Traditional & Self Contained B&B
 | Clean basic accommodation with simple furnishings and facilities.
| | Moderate accommodation with comfortable furnishings and facilities.
| | Well appointed establishment offering good comfortable accommodation and facilities.
| | Excellent quality of accommodation, furnishings and facilities. All four star properties will provide either ensuites or private bathrooms in each bedroom.
| | International quality of appointments, furnishings and decor with an extensive range of first call guest services and facilities. Five star properties must offer ensuites together with air conditioning (individually controlled) in each bedroom. |
A half star indicates that the property meets the mandatory requirements but with value adding amenities and guest facilities.
AAA Tourism Pty Ltd is the sole service provider for STAR ratings in Australia.
Detailed information on the scheme, the categories and the process of rating properties can be found on the AAAT website at www.aaatourism.com.au.
Important points when choosing your accommodation
The objective of star ratings is to accurately describe the standard of accommodation to the traveller as a guide to their purchase.
The service delivery, personality and character of the host is not able to be consistently rated in the same way that the overall standard of accommodation is portrayed.
The assessment process takes in elements such as cleanliness, maintenance, visual appearance, décor and amenities. These are the agreed priorities that will enhance the comfort of the experience.
